People often ask us why we named our practice Arise. For us, Arise has two important meanings. The first is that one can arise after one falls, gets knocked over, or simply finds that one has descended. We can make choices and behave in ways that facilitate that process. For us, this feels very linked to making it through life’s hardships, including traumatic experiences. The second meaning is that things arise and emerge organically, both inside of us (for example happiness, compassion, hope) and outside of us (the sun, the moon, plants, birds). We are especially interested in some of the recovery and resilience processes that arise within each of us under optimal conditions.
